BEREADY Bond Assignments #4 and #5

BEREADY Bond Assignments #4 and #5

Hey BEREADY family,

I hope everyone is doing well in school and I know some you are now are playing fall and winter sports. Have fun with your teams and keep up your grades. BEREADY is watching!

I’m so excited for the holidays as it is a great time to see friends and family. It is also a time for giving and sharing. Some of you may not think you have lot to share but you do. Life is all about perspectives and you can help many people just by giving them your time. At BEREADY Academy last summer we learned: “When you help someone, you help yourself” and here is your chance to prove it. We have combined the assignments for November and December so you can accomplish a lot with one great act of giving. Here is what you have to do:

1-Find any local organization or charity in your area to donate your time. You can help to serve people at a food bank, habitat for humanity, Goodwill, Salvation Army, or any place you can think of. If you find a person that you know who may need assistance (from an injury or elderly), you can volunteer to help them too. Make sure to give enough time so you get to know the people you are helping.

2-Write all the details of your experience on the BRBlog. Who you helped, when, where, how much time, and all the details about the experience that you can remember.

3-Comment on the other experiences on the BRBlog and compare them to yours. Make sure you respond to our BEREADY coaches who are living and playing overseas. They are far away from home and love to hear about what’s going on here at home. I had to call some of them myself to tell them that there was a presidential election and Obama won. I think they got the news before me!

You have 3 things to do to complete this assignment before December 31, 2012. I look forward to hearing about all your experiences on the BRBlog. You guys are half of the way to an amazing BEREADY Academy Program for 2013. Don’t give up now. Find your BEREADY brother or sister and get them on the BLOG too! Let’s Go!

During the holiday season I helped Miss Betty, Miss Barbara, Mr Freeman and Pat. They are residents at a retirement home called Carrington place. I visit them every other Thursday and spend an hour with them. The time that I spend with them includes talking to them, playing games and eating lunch. The residents have no family members that visit them so they are always excited when I visit.

I was being a bell-ringer for the Salvation Army. It got really cold during my 2 hour shift outside but then I thought about all the poor people that I was raising money for and how cold they feel when at night the don’t have warm house with a heater to go back to. I also tried to help out an organization that helps raise money and find homes for stray cats. Me and my mom were scheduled to help sell at a bake-sale to help raise money for the organization. When we go to the place we were supposed to sell but nobody was there. We contacted the head person of the group and she said that we had been the only ones that had showed up and we were in the wrong place. The thing was that nobody showed up at the right place either so to make a longer story short, it felt good to just set up because after I set up I had to go. It felt good to help even though all I did was set up.

I donated food to my school for the local food shelf. I helped my mom clean out my closet and I gave a bunch of old clothes and coats that I can’t wear anymore to kids that needed warm clothes for the winter. The kids go to a daycare that is free for them. Their parents can’t afford daycare so people volunteer to help take care of them.

This past month, my elderly grandparents had to re-configurate their home. They could not get anybody else to help them, so i volunteered and helped them multiple times this month. I actually had a lot of fun, and i felt really good after we finished all of our long hard work, even though I easily spent several hours helping them.

I went to a nursing home and sang christmas carols to them, it made me feel so happy to see all the smiles on their faces. the reason I did this is because I hav family members in nursing homes so I know how they feel.

Our school is having a food drive and I donated cans to the food drive. In school we are doing a research project on the Holocaust and that really made me recognize the importance of food because in the Holocaust many people died of hunger so I wanted to help out the people in need of food. It made me really happy to help the people that are less fortunate than me.

I went to North meck high school and painted poles with other people to help the school look nicer. There were a lot of people working together to complete our objective. After we were done the school looked very colorful and it felt nice to help out our community to be a nicer place.

I am going to the Laurels for Christmas caroling in December with the Mallard Creek Junior Optimists. It will take 2 hours and then we will talk to the elderly residents and get to know them.
